Tormented Nights

Amazing trials torment to our nights
And always when we least expect them to.
I wring my hands together; woe is me!
How can I endure this? Oh what can I do?

Whoever sees me thinks I am carefree
But with distress my mouth is often dry.
I am not needy, short of wordly wealth;
My love’s injustice is what brings me pain.

My friend knows my position’s very hard;
Problems prevented me from seeing her.
To see her, I would gladly risk my life
Because I know she guards her secrets well

Mohammed bin Zayed bin Khalifa Al Nahyan

He was the youngest of the sons of Sheikh Zayed bin Khalifa the Great.
He was born in 1898 and was said to have died at young age in 1926.
Not many of his poems were released. Clearly, he started poetry at an early age.
He excelled in romantic and sensitive poetry describing the loved one.

Be Careful

Take care, or you’ll regret it! Do not rush!
If you want to do things to perfection.
Many before you have refused to learn,
Rushed headlong, but did not achieve their goal.

A man who’s foolish does his body harm

Such damage that his hands can’t hold a thing
One who must rush will surely come to grief,
Losing those friends who once were close to him.

Let me advise you; if you want to learn,

Slow down in what you do; more haste less speed!
Be kind and fair in everything you do;
Justice and kindness will come back to you.

Be patient – it is worth a lot to you;
Good people prize it when you deal with them.
Respect from others is a cure for pain;
But do not bite off more than you can chew!

Late Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (Peace be upon him)

He was a father and an eager ruler who was known for his bravery and wisdom. He was beloved locally and internationally. Early in his years he was interested in literature and horse back riding. He created and excelled at Nabati poetry and published three collections.

When I Greet you

When I greet you, I hope for the same in return
But greetings won’t show what our true feelings are.
If I’d built you a palace, as you once deserved,
There’d be no excuse for the way you behaved.

Knowing you equalled the wealth of Baghdad,
Syria and all the land of Oman;
But today you aren’t worth a few cardamom pods
Thrown from a coffee pot onto the sand.

Another now fills up the space in my heart,
Has taken it over, and devours my brain.
If he asks for the universe and all it holds
If God wills it so, I will bring it to her.
